Joined Illinois Army National Guard in 1975, the first year possible for women in the ILARNG. Became the first female commissioned officer in the ILARNG. Served as platoon leader for 1244thTransportation Company, Carbondale, IL and 1344th Transportation Company, Cairo, IL. Transferred to the US Army Reserve and commanded the 825th Personnel Detachment (Marion, IL). Promoted to captain, served as the first female commander for the 96th Army Reserve Command, Salt Lake City, 866th Supply Company, Tooele, UT. Went active duty, served as ops officer for Recruiting Command, Atlanta, GA, then ROTC instructor, University of Utah, Salt Lake, City. Promoted to Major, served at the Full Time Support Management Center, St. Louis, MO., and executive officer of the 313th Transportation Battalion, Baltimore, MD, then at the Pentagon, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and served as deputy director of FTSMC, St. Louis. Left active duty to command the 1395th Transportation Brigade, promoted to Colonel. Mobilized for Operation Iraqi Freedom, served as Commander, Port of Corpus Christi. Finished out my active duty to retirement as the Chief of Mobility, Distribution management Center, Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, IL.

Served in the United States Army 1967/1969 15 months in South Viet Nam. Was awarded the Bronze Star - Air Medal - Combat Infantry Badge

Basic, Advanced Individual Training, Officer Candidate School (Ft. Benning), commissioned second lieutenant, Infantry. Airborne school, Special Forces Officer Course, and on to first military assignment, 8th Special Forces Group, Panama Canal Zone. Left active duty in 1974, drove back to the States, joined the Illinois National Guard while attending SIU School of Law. Promoted to captain and commanded B Company, 3d battalion, 130 Infantry. Returned to active duty in 1981, promoted to major, then Lieutenant Colonel. Commanded 244th Engineer Battalion (Construction Heavy), Denver, CO. Promoted to Colonel , commanded the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade, Silver Spring, MD. Appointed as the Deputy Commander of the US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, Ft. Bragg, NC. Deployed to Bosnia (1997-1998) as Task Force Commander for the Combined Joint Information Campaign Task Force. Retired 2000.

Served as a Loadmaster on a C-130 Cargo plane flew out of Columbus<Ohio for3 years all over the world. Flew supply missions in Viet Nam the last year. In 4 years airdropped many Army jumpers, jeeps, trucks, etc.
