Army, 3 Years

Germany - 8th Inf. Div.-- 12th Engineer Battalion-- Combat Engineers -- Heavy Equipment Section of HQ & HQ Company------------ NATO wintershield 1 & 2 and two responses to Berlin Wall -------- Several readiness alerts ----------TDY many times ------ support for G/A heavy equipment projects ----- heavy equipment operator, and heavy equipment mechanic assignments for most of our base`s heavy equipment section of HQ & HQ Company at our Anderson Barracks of Dexheim Germany ---- we were used for the support of all the 8th Infantry Division including our Airborne men and their light to medium equipment drops by the loading and secureing the loads of cats, graders, trucks, jeeps, artillary pieces, etc on the Air Force planes "preparations" on several Air Force Bases --- these were required drops of our Airborne men and all their Airborne equipment for maintaining the readiness response requirments ------- performed aggressor and judging duty for the 68th Armor, Airborne, and Infantry companies/battalions of the 8th Inf Div.------- our section maintained and operated a rock crusher operation in Baumholder for the country and trained German workers by
rotation shifts of 3 to 6monthsassignments
utilizing our Cats and Cranes for the moving of materials off the hills/mountains --------- We built an airfield by knocking down three mountain tops, leveling them down for the runway, and they were using as glider field at the time i left Germany --------- We had a sizeable missle site and post had life expectency of approx. i5 to 30 minute threat at all times------------ i had the opportunity to work with many highly qualified men during my enlistment involving all ranks and titles !

Progressed thru the service as follows:
Ft. Leonard Wood basic training

Ft. Leonard Wood 2nd 8 and combat engineering training then moved on to the heavy equip. mechanical schooling.-----------

Granite City Army Depot transfer point for
overseas assignment-------
worked on heavy equipment parts, etc. while there !

Murnau Germany for Heavy Equipment Operations Schooling near Garmish ------

Air Force met me in Chicago on the way home andtried to get me to help start up their newly implemented Heavy Equipment division .......... I was too young to see the
opportunity of a lifetime and came home ! (thats hindsight)
