Joined Army in 1958. Transferred to Air Force in 1961 and retired from the Air Force during 1981. Served as a Military Policeman during early career and later as a Personnel Officer. Attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha under the Air Force's "Bootstrap" program graduating in 1971.

Stationed at Wadena AFS MN from Oct 65 thrue Jan 69. Civil Engineering. Air Conditioning Specialist. Conscious Objector. Snow Removal in Winter. Lawn maintenace in Summer. We had an industrial type air conditioning system. It rarely needed maintance except to change filtures. We were under the auspice of Duluth AFB MN Fighter Plane Squadrons and Grand Forks AFB ND SAC Base B52 Boombers. It just snows, snows snows...two months of summer.

Lt. Col. Mitchell M. Mickel, Retired

Air Force, 20+ Years
Lt. Col. Mitchell M. Mickel, Retired. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Anzio, Italy, during WW II, where he received a purple heart. Mitchell received his commission to the U.S. Air Force after graduating from WVU where he received a degree in economics. He retired from the Air Force after 26 years of military service. After retiring from the military, Mitchell worked for the Internal Revenue Service and later worked for the Office of Personnel Management. Mitchell passed away on January 29, 2008 after a long illness.

Promoted through the ranks from E-1 and retired as an 04 (LCDR). Retired from active duty in October 1993 as Officer-in-Charge of Navy Satellite Communications Station Northwest Virginia. Currently living in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Our Williamson High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done!
