Wayne Leydsman
Class of 1969
Coast Guard, 17 Years
I was an officer and aviator. Went through Pensacola those many years ago. Spent five years on active duty and 12 in the Reserves. While on active duty I flew helicopters and was based primarily on the West Coast. I also was detached as a helicopter pilot on several of our Cutters in the Pacific. I flew many missions including search and rescue, which I enjoyed. In the Reserves I even had command of a Reserve unit with about 100 Coast Guard Reservists. Due to cut backs, one day I found myself out of the military and decided to place my efforts into my city fire department job and family. I chose to be a volunteer as a member of the Civil Air Patrol and continue to utilize my skills and training as a pilot and as a former military member, to 'give back' to my Country and Community.
