F-16 Weapons System Technician. I was basically a grease monkey on the weapons system of the F-16, I loaded Bombs, Missiles and 20MM Ammo and took care of the maintenance and upkeep of that system. The F-16 is a "fly by wire" aircraft, so there was always a lot of electronic work to be done, checked and maintained everyday. I was in from March 1986 - October 2006, Honorably retired active duty in Oct 2006.
Stationed all over the world in 20+years, no regrets and it was my pleasure to serve "OUR" country. Veteran of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Southern Watch, Operation Northern Watch, Operation Allied Force (Kosovo), Operation Joint Guard (Bosnia/Herzogovenia), and a few more in different locations. I have been to Africa, Spain, Czech Republic, Sardinia, Germany, France, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, Croatia, Qatar, Kuwait, Kosovo, and I am sure there are a few more....
Couple of interesting bits of info.....I was actually in Saudi Arabia in Sept. 2001, (close to Riyad, where Osama bin Laden was born and still has a lot of followers) when 9/11 went down. As soon as the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower....The **** hit the fan to say the least. We went right to work and were not in a lot of danger, but we had everything we could ready to go and loaded for bear! We worked so hard and so long that we did not even know a plane hit the Pentagon or that another plane full of heros went down in PA. After a rough 18 hour day, we had a chance to get the no kidding data and updates as to what really went down......Worst day of my military career! I was there alone and my family was in Italy where we were stationed, but that 2-3 days without contact was brutal on us all! I was also a part of the follow-up operations in 2003 during a little operation called "Shock and Awe" when Baghdad was basically crippled. Our aircraft went in to clean up the scraps after the stealth aircraft went in there unnoticed/unseen and basically crippled Baghdad by detroying all communication and supply lines in and out of Baghdad. I am not a big advocate of war on any level due to the possibility/reality of civilian casualties, but that is a part of war, always will be and always has been throughout history, check that one for yourselves. I do not have to like it, but after 9/11, the world as we know it will never be the same. That may not be a bad thing as we are all on constant watch now for terrorism....Look how many possible acts of terrorism have been stopped since the higher alert levels have been instituted. Try and remember that the next time someone complains about the TSA and the rules that the elected law makers have instituted....They are doing their respective jobs and that makes sense to me. ONE LAST THING....The media only tells the public what they want them to know or what stories will sell airtime or sell printed media. The US only hears about the terrible things that are happening and not too mnay of the good and there is a LOT of good things going on in that part of the world as well. There are MANY of us that have helped build schools, irrigation ditches, repair water lines, supply lines and sewage lines, etc. Just remember that the next time you see, hear or read about how the war is useless and/or not needed and a waste of time/money. These people have lived like animals for generations and they simply do not know better and us being there is a big part of the reason why the USA is the greatest country on earth and I am sad to say that the majority of the public that may not be affiliated with or familiar with what the military is actually all about, may not truly understand WHY......Any of you can contact me anytime and I will answer any questions that may come up to the best of my ability.
Take Care of you and yours!
God Bless the United States of America!
