Served in Tonkin Gullf, Viet Nam, late 67 through mid 69. The USS FRANK E EVANS DD754 was struck amidships by the HMAS Melbourne late on the night of 3 June, 1969, severing the ship in half and taking 74 crewmembers to the bottom of the South China Sea. l was in the water for a brief time but was brought aboard the Melbourne and joined the survivors. l was Honorably discharged from the Navy August 70.
