Joined in August, 1979, went to boot camp in Cape May, New Jersey - from there to Washington, D.C. Headquarters, worked in the Legal Dept. 3 1/2 years - transferred to Mayport, Florida, November, 1982, for 3 1/2 years and got out in August, 1985 as a YN2/E-5. Loved it!

Stationed in Germany for 7 years. Deployed to Iraq 3 times, Macedonia for 6 months and to Hungary and Croatia for 8 months. Retired in March of 2008

Spent 1 year in Bremerton, Washington and got transfered to Naval station in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii were I served the remainder of my enlistment. I had three differant duty station while in Hawaii. Somebody had to do it.

I spent 11 years active duty Air Force. I have been in the Iowa Air National Guard in Sioux City for16 years ( 3 as a Traditional Guardsman and13 as a fulltime technician), 10 years to go until retirement!!

Joined the Navy in 1960. After Boot Camp I was stattioned at Naval Station Adak Alaska, USS Hector AR-7, Cargo Handling Battalion Two, USS Vega AF-59, USS General J.C. Breckenridge TAP-176, Naval Support Facility, Vietnam, Naval Supply Dept Yokosuka, Japan, USS Biddle CG-34, USS Albany CG-10, Atlantic Fleet Supply Overhaual Facility Norfolk, VA, Naval Facility Antigua, BWI
Retired with the rank of SKCS E-8, Had some great experiences and would recommend the Navy to anyone looking for a great adventure while doing a critical task for thier country.

Served aboard the USS Merrick (AKA-97) attack cargo ship, deployed to Viet Nam 1965; first Naval operation on Vung Tah river. Trained with Inshore Undersea Warfare Group, survival training with Marines in Camp Pendelton. Transferred to USS Pledge (MSO-492) wooden hulled minesweep with variable depth sonar, sent to Viet Nam patrolled coast in Operation Market Time intercepting junks off coast.

Boot Camp in Texas, Tech school in Colorado & 4 years @ Offutt Air Force Base in Bellvue, Neb.~~~ Mark was also stationed @ Offutt AFB, & they were married in Omaha, Mark's home town.
